Robyn Pollard owner and creator of Readhelp.com.au was a mother to a child born victim to a 'specific learning difficulty', she lived through many years of wrong diagnosis and payed out small fortunes to tutors, testing centres and online so called miracle courses that offered to help. With each test and wrong diagnosis causing her son to get more and more self conscious and concerned with his reading abilities. He struggled at school and even with private tutors and constant support from his family he didn’t seem to be improving. He suffered symptoms such as headaches, sore eyes and fatigue
At the age of 14 he was finally correctly diagnosed with Perceptual Dyslexia, his is treatment was as simple as a pair of glasses, from that moment everything changed; he finally started to move forward in leaps and bounds. Robyn couldn't believe how much her son improved in the months that followed, his headache subsided, his energy levels increased his eyes didn't seem to tire any more. Her son could finally start to learn through standard teaching practice. For Robyn this was fantastic news however the fact remained, her son though improving still had a far below average literacy level. Over the years that followed her son continued to improve, completing high school with above 80 Percent TER, he moved on to start his own successful business, where he won the Melbourne Young achiever of the year award in 2007. Robyn believes that these successes were greatly due to the discovery and treatment of his ‘specific learning deficiency’. Robyn also believes that if her son had been diagnosed earlier his condition would have been much less severe.
