If there is concern that you, or someone you know may have Dyslexia it is important that a screening test is taken. Whilst these screening tests will not confirm whether the person has Dyslexia it will show whether a personalised individual assessment is required. Some sample screening test questions are:
- Do you have trouble with spelling?
- Do you have trouble reading aloud?
- Do other family members have reading problems?
- Is there a reluctance to attend school?
Where can I do these tests?
These screening tests can be done at home, however if it is found that further tests are needed it is important to contact a relevant professional for an individual assessment. Private or school psychologists are able to provide these tests as well as Dyslexic screening centres.
Dyslexia is not curable but it is treatable and early detection can be of great benefit to a person’s quality of life.
